Ode to my Pen

I searched high and low
to find you
stuffed away somewhere
in my house.
I had gone through
much pain and anguish
barely completing my
morning pages
hand cramped
writing: “no — not this one
this is not the one”
more times than I would have liked.
Then you came along,
Dear Pen.
Your ink glides seamlessly
along the pages of my notebook
without drag, tension or smudge —
you do as you are told
without much hesitation.
You are light
with a grip
that is firm and not sticky.
Oh, Dear Pen.
I fear the day I lose you forever.
We have had plenty of scares
in couch cushions and under books,
often due to my inability to keep
a tidy workspace,
but I cannot avoid the inevitability
that one day
you will run out of ink.
And that reminds me —
I should really check Amazon
to see if I can
purchase more of you online.
However, even still,
You will be always be my first love,
even if I find a better pen
on sale.
