Sunshine Blogger Award!
I’m doing it, even though I don’t think I really get it!
So, my friend Eilidh Horder just nominated me to complete questions for her “Sunshine Blogger Award.” I have to admit, I don’t think I really understand exactly what it is, but I know it involves me answering the questions she poses in her blog. And for that, I am down.
I think this is really meant for people who have their own blogging platform, but when I read that she listed me as a person to complete these questions I thought — well, why not? I am a blogger, afterall. I don’t have my own blog, but this one here on Medium seems to work out pretty well for my blogging needs.
So here we go:
- What am I reading?
Great question — I had to check myself. I finished up Don’t Keep Your Day Job on audible very quickly, and then also read/ listened to The Burnout Generation by Anne Helen Peterson. The Burnout Generation is a very quick and interesting book, but now I’m back to The Obstacle Is The Way by Ryan Holiday. I keep going in and out of that book because frankly, it’s not all that interesting, and it’s made worse by the fact that the narrator sounds like he has a cold. His nose is completely stuffed and it’s very distracting. So yes, that’s my current reading list. - If I was a color, what color would I be?
I’d like to think I would be yellow — the color of The Goddess. Yellow is a friendly color and it’s full of energy. I suspect I might be more of a red person though, and I could live with that characterization. I am pretty fiery and bold. - What is your first memory?
Oh boy. huh. It’s hard to say, really, but maybe it’s riding my little scooter car toy thing down the long hallway in the first house I lived in? I remember riding that thing down the hallway with my Pop pop behind me. That has to be an early memory because he died of cancer when I was very young — I think I was 4 when he died. - Star Trek or Star Wars?
Star Wars ALL THE WAY. I have seen every one of them. - What’s your favorite kids’ film?
The Muppet Christmas Carol is definitely up there. And it’s seasonally appropriate. - Do you prefer to have friends stay or to go and stay with friends?
I prefer to go visit friends and stay at a hotel. In fact Eilidh, now that you mention it, I would LOVE to come visit you ASAP! :-)
But I guess for more of an explanation, I’m not a huge fan of people up in my space, so I don’t love people staying with us. I love to travel, but I don’t love staying with friends — it feels like an inconvenience. So, I would like see my friends, and stay at a hotel. - If you had all the time in the world, what would you do that you’re not doing at the moment?
Well, I have set up my life at this point in a way that I do a lot of what I want to do pretty frequently. But, if I had more time, I would be writing more than I’m currently writing. I have been neglecting my writing in favor of my visual art because it is the thing that will make me the most money right now. I love to write and I love to create visual art, but the focus is certainly more in one direction right now.
I would also meditate. I have never done well at developing a meditation practice… - If money didn’t come into it, how would you spend your time?
The divide would be more even between my art and my writing. I also would volunteer more, but I’m working on that. I have to do an orientation since I haven’t been at the rescue farm for over 3 years, and I’m doing that next week. So I will officially be a volunteer at Days End Horse Rescue in about a week. And if money wasn’t involved, I would spend more than one day there each week, I assure you. - What was your most memorable childhood birthday?
One year I thought it would be fun for all of my friends and I to play this game with flour. You pack flour into a bowl, and place a grape on top of it. Then you have to get the grape out of the flour “cake” without using your hands. When you finally got the grape, you would life your head up, covered in flour. My mom took a picture of me and each of my friends doing this. I thought it was hilarious. - What’s your favorite sad song?
Currently: Travelin’ Soldier by The Dixie Chicks. It has been on my mind for days. - Are you making any small or large changes to help save the planet?
I think I will. I have not too long ago — I was representing seniors who were victims of financial exploitation, neglect and elder abuse.
I guess I try to make small changes by encouraging people when I can. I live my life in a way that inspires others to go after their dreams. I try to put gratitude out into the world whenever I can. I hope it makes a difference.
I also love making people smile with my art. I love when someone really gets it and they just grin — it makes me very happy.
So now it looks like I am supposed to nominate people to answer some questions, too. It’s absolutely NOT required for any of you to answer these questions, but this seems like a fun thing to do, so why not? (The questions you answer are below)
Guérin Asante, Jenny Justice, Tapan Avasthi, Christina Ward 💗, Tre L. Loadholt, Ashwini Dodani, Frank McKinley, Daryl Bruce, Reuben Salsa, Isaac Xavier Van Holde, Jonathan Greene
Ok, here are the questions you get to answer:
- Cake or pie?
- What’s your favorite memory from holiday seasons past?
- What’s your favorite season?
- What’s your favorite flower?
- If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
- What is something we probably don’t know about you?
- When you think about the future, what do you look forward to?
- When you think about the past, do you have any regrets?
- What was your high school superlative?
- What is your favorite thing to have for breakfast?
- What four words would you use to describe yourself?
I don’t *really* understand how this Sunshine Blogger thing works, but it seems like if you do it, then you get to tag a bunch of people and make you your own questions, too. I’m not sure what about this has anything to do with an award, but it activity is fun none-the-less. I hope at least one of you will join in on the fun! ❤
