Today I’m making an announcement. I’ve turned into an elf.
Though that’s not exactly true, it feels accurate to me right now.
If you didn’t know, I own a jewelry and art business. It’s called Shine and Marvel Jewelry and Designs (if you’re curious, my Etsy shop is shineandmarvel.etsy.com, and @shineandmarvel on Facebook and Instagram).
This is my very first holiday season. I’m pretty freaked out about it because I’m putting a lot of pressure on myself to do well. I have at least one vendor show every weekend until December 21st.
For months, I have had an Etsy shop and neglected it. Then, just a few days ago, I decided I didn’t want that to be the case anymore. I wanted my Etsy shop to be reflective of my current skills and artistic talent.
To that end, I challenged myself to have 100 Etsy listings in my shop by December 1st. When I started this challenge, I had 42.
Because I love to create community, I even put together a community of other women with Etsy shops who are doing this with me. It all came together quickly.
So now I’m doing this challenge, and running a little challenge community.
Etsy listings take lots of time. I am also working hard to maintain an inventory, as I put up new items and they are purchased, I don’t have as many items for my online shop and future events.
So the fire is burning at many ends.
Because this Etsy business is taking so much of my time right now, I have not been able to devote much time to Medium.
More specifically, my Thankful Thursday posts take LOTS of time. I curate articles, and I write things about them. But it’s not just random, complementary things — I work hard to make sure that I express the way that the stories, poems and articles that I share make me feel.
With limited time, I just can’t do these posts justice right now. And I’m not interested in doing this half-assed. If I’m going to do it, I’m going to do it right.
So, at least until the beginning of the year, I will not be doing Thankful Thursday posts.
I believe this is just a break and that I will breathe new life into these posts in the new year. But for now, I will leave you with the message that I have LOVED doing these posts. They have gotten me through some very very dark times. I am grateful for the Medium community, and for all that you all have shared with me.
I love you, and I have enjoyed spreading the love.
For now, here’s my Thankful Thursday Facebook live video from today. I will continue to do these Facebook lives, but I will likely be looking more like this… a bit of a disheveled mess. A very happy, disheveled mess. :-)
