A Poem about Friendship

Weak ties
In my mind
Good friends
Are hard to find.

Weak ties
Keep you alive
No use hiding
If you strive to thrive.

Weak ties
Come into your life
To graze the surface
Not always inside.

Weak ties
You and I
I’m here with you now
’Til we say our goodbye.

Author’s note: A “weak tie” is a sociological term for an acquaintance — someone who will check up on you to make sure you’re alright, but who isn’t a close friend or family member. There are studies indicating that having lots of weak ties, particularly as we age, contributes to our overall happiness and health.

I hope you cherish your weak ties.
