Your legacy, to me.
I don’t want to be bitter.
Letting salt fester
in wounds without
learning how to heal.
I don’t want to be selfish.
Turning my back
to those I love —
that I don’t
want to live
without.
I don’t want to feel dead while I’m alive.
Waiting for it
like a sneeze
that gets stuck
in my nose.
It’s always there.
I don’t want to live like you did.
Re-victimizing yourself
every day
you got the chance
to fill your lungs
with light
and stand upright,
but you chose
to lay down instead.
This version of me
only gets one time to be.
It is a blessing to live,
and I will.
That’s your legacy, to me.
